Georgia recruited myself into bowling in 1976 when I was 16 years old. I don't remember where we started bowling but I enjoyed bowling with her very much. It was fun. She got Kala started when she moved from Manhattan. (She lived there for a little over a year) We both bowled with her until probably about 1979 or so. I knowed we bowled in Ellinwood but can't remember anywhere else. We went to tournaments. Georgia and I won money in the Hutchison tournament I believe in 1976 or 77'. I still have the hope chest I purchased with my part of our winnings. We bowled with Georgia, Rita Doll and Josie Kukula. A very nice bunch of ladies.
ReplyDeleteRoger and I had gone to Kansas City one year and while we were there went into a store and was shopping for Christmas when I came across this doll I thought would make a nice gift for Georgia for Christmas. I know she collected dolls and while this wasn't a collector doll or anything it reminded me of her. So I gave it to her. I alway remember I felt very priviledged because she alway kept my doll on her bed. I thought it held a special place. Years later she came to visit me in Topeka and here she came with that doll. It was after Katie was born and she wanted to make sure I got the doll back so that I could give it to Katie when she is older. I have that doll proudly displayed in my china cabinet waiting for Katie when she is older. That was, I thought, a very special thing she did and I think of Georgia every time I look at the doll, and know Katie will too when it is her time for it.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things about Grandma was her love for the game of Scrabble. I remember as a youngster, always wanting to get into the game. They were pretty serious about it and I think it really must have been a bother to have the little kids wanting to join in.
ReplyDeleteI remember one of my last visits to Grandma's farm included a game of Scrabble with my mom and Grandma. I don't recall whether I won the game, but the high point for me was at the beginning. I was first up and laid out all seven letters right away to spell "MIRACLE".
Yes it was and so was Grandma.
